The influx of new hotels (and motels) in Manchester is showing no sign of slowing down.

The redevelopment of St Peter’s Square creates one of the most exciting urban spaces

Construction on a brand new budget design hotel in St Peter’s Square is expected to start in spring next year, after the German Motel One brand secured a new lease agreement in a deal with the Property Alliance Group.

Subject to planning permission, space for 328 bedrooms has been agreed for the new 3 St Peter's Square scheme - on the site of the old Peterloo House.

This new property will be the third in the city for Motel One, with their first Manchester venture – the 330-bed Motel One in Piccadilly - opened in 2015, and a 298-bed hotel on Cross Street set to open in May 2017.

This is all part of Motel One’s rapid expansion plan which involves the opening of eight hotels across Europe in 2017, and plans in the pipeline for 25 additional Motel One sites across major European metropolises.

Motel One, based in Munich, was founded in 2000 to deliver 'exceptional service and high-quality design in prime inner-city locations at budget prices'.

Stefan Lenze, Head of Development, said: “This is a perfect base for our third hotel in Manchester. The redevelopment of St Peter’s Square creates one of the most exciting urban spaces right in the heart of the city, so we look forward to working with Alliance to progress the development.”

This new project is further testament to Motel One’s confidence in the UK economy and its positive trading experience in the market. Mr Lenze said: “Motel One remains committed to its expansion in the UK, and we are actively looking for further sites in London and Edinburgh, as well as other major cities such as Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds.”

The budget design hotel chain currently operates 55 hotels with approximately 14,600 rooms across Europe, including Germany, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands and the Czech Republic. The brand currently has eight sites secured across the UK.
